2022
Let’s be honest, 2021 began filled with hope, shrouded in mystery and ultimately ended underwhelmingly. Divisions in society grew, faith in authorities dissipated and we, at least I, began to question my conscience. To me, 2021 will be a year of reflection where I began to understand my soul better and more deeply. I questioned continuing to write and keep Footyscout alive as a blog, questioning my ability of formulate content when not much was going on and my affinity to creative expression.
What does this have to do with the beautiful game you may ask. Well, I have always felt that soccer is bigger than sport, it truly defines many people and cultures. The pictures and videos of fans and players crying in agony and celebration are explanatory of this. There is a deep affection for emotional expression, both technically and personally. Hence my openness with you, my faithful followers. Footyscout will continue due to my passion towards the beautiful game and most importantly, the satisfaction that reading my posts gives some of you great people. My motto for 2022 is to give more than receive, love more than be loved and please more that seek pleasure.
In regards to soccer, the most poignant story of 2021 for me was the collapse of Christen Eriksen during Denmark’s opening game at the Euros. Watching a player collapse and be covered in a white sheet being carried off the pitch was harrowing to say the least. It spoke volumes to me about the value of life and the importance of trying to cherish every moment. Watching players, officials and fans alike band together to save the life of a fellow civilian showed the true nature of mankind and how we do have the ability to work together beyond the confines of our affiliations to achieve greater good. The collaborative actions of many helped save a life and free many of the despair of losing a loved one.
The story was reflective of what it will take to overcome this evil pandemic in 2022 not to mention all the other obstacles that mankind are faced with including climate change, division, brutality and waning compassion for each other.
As stated, 2021 helped me learn and grow on different levels than before. Ultimately, the words empathy and compassion for others and myself are imperative to progression this year.
Happy new year. Wishing you blessings in 2022.
Speak soon.
Love,
Footyscout
