Wow Canada
I don't have any other way to express the pride I had in Canada's performance today. We just completely dominated the second ranked team in the world for 89 minutes. One unfortunate long ball caught us out but in all honesty, the score could have been 4-0 by then. Unfortunately in the end, football can be a 'funny old game' but to be able to say that in a World Cup makes me so proud. I have family and friends all over Europe who were texting me asking how we had climbed the mountain of football to be able to outplay formidable foes in such a short span of time. My thoughts were that a lot of us come from immigrant parents and grandparents who gave us a football grounding. We took it and ran. We played, talked, taught and enjoyed the beautiful game together. We had mentors and enemies who helped us grow and teach. This is the story of and underdog who belongs.
We should all be incredibly proud today as we've all contributed. From players, coaches, fans, parents and watchers-on, we belong on the world stage. And in the words of our leader, John Herdman “I just told them were going to 'F' Croatia. It's as simple as that.”
