Now, those that have listened to Jason Cundy on Talksport will know that he has no love lost for the Arsenal but isn’t his reaction to Aubameyang’s goal celebration slightly over the top? I thought the celebration was pure brilliance and part of the beauty in sport are the characters within it. If we shackle their creativity and entertainment value, we lose a large piece of the value puzzle. Would Cundy prefer Alan Shearer’s one armed salute for every goal celebration? As he stated, he’s probably wildly out of touch with today’s generation of footballers not to mention the supporters that buy tickets and merchandise.

I also noted during the match that the commentators of the match kept alluding to Aubameyang’s celebration every time Rennes came close to scoring what would be a tying goal in the overall aggregate. They stated that he’d look the fool should they score, as did Cundy. I’d like to know where the backing to this deluded mindset was as, of the four goals Arsenal scored over two legs, Aubameyang had two – the man did his part. Not to mention, the Gabon international is tied for second in the Premier League’s top scorer race, only one behind Sergio Aguero and level with Mo Salah and Harry Kane, the pundits golden boy.

I get sick and tired of pundits and supporters slating players for exuberant celebrations. Let the players do their job, entertain. Whether it be a fantastic goal or a creative celebration – I don’t care, entertain me!
