I watched Liverpool FC demolish Spartak Moscow at lunchtime today. What a performance! The front three of Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane with Philippe Coutinho in behind and Emre Can sitting deep may just be the most intimidating five in the Premier League. Liverpool FC will most likely get knocked out in the next round but only because of defensive frailties, not their lack of destruction going forward.

It`s interesting how the game has evolved into a 4-3-3 formation being the most often deployed line-up for top tier teams. Managers now implement a small, nimble front three that can cause havoc on the opposition through their persistent speed and craft. Just two or three years back, a 4-4-2 was the norm for top tier teams. Two strikers; one big and strong with the ability to hold up a ball or flick on to the other quicker frontman. 

The explanation is a perfect conclusion to my previous post, Biggie Smalls, in which I explain the devastating vigour in which the Juventus front three attack with. The game has shifted from the need for bigger, stronger players to a mandatory requirement for speed, skill and creativity.

Liverpool FC definitely exemplified all of these qualities today.
