It's Back.

What's back you may ask. No you didn't, as you're the football fanatics who I desire to read this blog. Of course I'm referring to Football!

I sat down at lunch on Friday and watched a barnstorming 90 minutes between Arsenal and Leicester City. The match ended 4-3 (yes, you read it right) and for me, was one of the best matches I've seen in ages. A to-and-fro of speed, skill and passion. Arsenal were their faulty selves in allowing too much space and time to Leicester not to mention committing several criminal giveaways. Leicester were solid and astute in their game plan until they crumbled to the dizziness of total football that the Gunners began to deploy. Arsenal began to take a stranglehold on the match in the last 20 minutes and came from 3-2 down to win 4-3 through late goals from Aaron Ramsey and supersub, Olivier Giroud. I nearly blew the roof of my flat with the over-exuberant yelling after the winner!

How do you follow that up. Well, the Premier League definitely did with Liverpool surrendering a 94th minute goal at Watford to draw 3-3 in the early Saturday kick-off followed by a thriller at Stamford Bridge seeing Chelsea almost claw-back from 3 goals down and 2 men sent off but ultimately losing 3-2 to Burnley - boo-fucking-hoo.

As much as fans of La Liga, Serie A and other leagues around the world might disagree, the Premier League is far and away the best league in the world. Why? Well look at the evidence above. Leicester City, Watford and Burnley took three of the best teams in the League to task and earned a win and a draw out of them. The competition is strong from top-to-bottom hence winning the Premier League is the most difficult domestic trophy in the World to win.

In European action, the first leg of the Supercopa de Espana was an absolute treat to watch. Barcelona losing to Real Madrid 3-1 in an absolutely enthralling match which encompassed the best of Cristiano Ronaldo followed by the worst. His goal (shown below) was the phenomenon at his best. What struck me most was the deftness of his chest lay off. It was majestic how he cushioned a ball down into his teammates path with such ease. What followed was the freight train steamrolling to the other end to strike with pinpoint accuracy into the far top corner. Then came the customary shirt removal and incredible hulk celebration showing off a body that I'm definitely jealous of - and a yellow card. Ronaldo was then shown a second yellow for a blatant dive and consequently sent off. Worse was his pushing of the referee which has landed him an additional four game ban. I get the heat of the moment and the passion that comes with it but a player of Ronaldo's class and experience has to know better. Now we're deprived of seeing the Hulk in action until the end of September.

That's your lot for today folks - what a weekend of football it was and here's to more of the same this season.

Football, Bloody Hell.
