Ajax of Amsterdam.
The beauty of the underdog has been evident in the last two rounds of the UEFA Champions League which has seen a production line club, Ajax, oust billion dollar clubs Real Madrid and Juventus. Seeing the Amsterdam outfit completely outclass the two mega-clubs has been absolutely phenomenal and a breath of fresh air. I hope they face and oust Manchester City and Barcelona in the semi-final and final to really put the sword to all those who clamor that a club needs to spend x amount of money in the summer transfer window to be successful.
Ajax ruled Europe during the seventies but fell by the wayside due to the billionaire ownership of less culturally infused clubs. However, they maintained their philosophy of playing total football initially developed by Rinus Michels and further crafted by the late Johan Cruyff. Through patience, perseverance and honor to their philosophy, they have now moved back to the upper echelon of European football.
Long may it continue.
